One of the hardest parts of recovery for me was watching my body change and feeling like I was “giving up.”
Giving up on an essential part of my identity, the thing that made me successful, and what people valued about me. However, it wasn’t actually me or the people around me that valued my body or appearance; it was the intrusive thoughts in my head fueled by my ED.
As I’ve watched my body change, I’ve also watched my life become brighter, my relationships grow stronger, my training become more enjoyable, my race results get better, and the value I place on my body diminish.
It’s so easy to feel like the way I look on the outside is what makes me valuable, but it doesn’t determine my worth OR my ability. The fueled & healthy version of myself is not only faster, but has much more to offer the world.
