Katie Burchfield, DVM '15, credits her time in the Texas A&M University Poultry Science department for her success as a veterinarian. She is a traveling veterinarian for JBS USA providing preventative care, treatment and animal welfare oversight at six complexes in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Florida. During her time as an undergraduate, she said she learned about poultry veterinarians and the role they play in bird health. Although her passion for production agriculture was sparked at a young age, the interesting coursework and networking opportunities offered through the department solidified her decision to go into the poultry industry. Current students interested in a similar career path should know that Burchfield's team has a summer internship program offering experience and resume-building opportunities.
