Lexington’s postseason Cinderella run came up just short Wednesday night as top-seeded Gretna defeated the Minutemen 8-2 in the Class B state championship match at Morrison Stadium. The sixth-seeded Minutemen reached the title game after pulling off two major upsets during the state tournament, but Gretna’s high-powered offense proved too much in the second half as the Dragons captured their fourth state championship in program history. Gretna struck first early in the match when senior Elijah Fulton headed in his 17th goal of the season to give the Dragons a 1-0 advantage. Lexington answered quickly behind Alexander Barraza-Sands, who blasted in a long-range shot for his fifth goal of the season to tie the match at 1-1 and energize the Minutemen crowd.
