They banned Roots. In Tennessee. The same state that has a statue of Alex Haley. 📚✊🏾 Knox County Schools has removed Alex Haley's Pulitzer Prize-winning Roots from its school libraries. The reason? It was flagged under a state law targeting "excessive violence" and inappropriate content. Roots joins 119 books banned in Knox County alone, including Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye. And this isn't just a Tennessee problem. Over 10,000 books were banned from schools and libraries during the 2023-24 school year alone. They don't want the next generation to know this history. That's exactly why we keep telling it. 🔗 Link in bio for the full story. #Roots #AlexHaley #BookBan #BlackHistory #Tennessee #BlackCulture #Blavity #BookBans #KnoxCounty #ProtectBlackStories
