Female octopuses are known to attack or even consume males during or after mating, especially when stressed, hungry, or unwilling to reproduce. This behavior, called sexual cannibalism, has been observed in several octopus species. Males often approach cautiously and use specialized mating arms from a distance to avoid danger, since females are larger, stronger, and capable of overpowering them easily.
