Today I took Axel for sleep dentistry and out of nowhere, I was right back there.
The NICU.
The fear.
The unknown.
My body didn’t forget.
The sweating, the tension, that overwhelming wave of emotion… even the tears.
And for a moment, it felt scary that something so far behind us could feel so close again.
But the more I sit with it, the more I see it differently.
Maybe it’s not something to “get over.”
Maybe it’s something we carry for a reason.
A reminder of how deeply we love.
How quickly we’ll drop everything to protect them.
How tuned in our bodies are to our children, even years later.
That instinct, that reaction… it’s not weakness.
It’s connection.
