@apnews, Judge Gregory Carro ruled that evidence obtained during an inventory of his backpack at the police station, including a gun and a notebook, could be used. The evidence found during an initial search of Mangione’s backpack during his arrest at a McDonald’s restaurant must be suppressed.

The items that will be suppressed include a gun ammunition magazine, a cellphone, a passport, a wallet, and a computer chip. The judge said, “I find that the search of the backpack at the McDonald’s was an improper warrantless search.”
