You would be surprised at how many people think blind kids don’t need to learn Braille. Even blind kids don’t want to learn Braille and be different from their peers. I was no different but I’m so glad my mom and teachers fought for me. They made it possible for me to go to an incredible school like Saint Lucy’s even though it was over an hour away from my home and family - I went to Saint Lucy’s in Philadelphia until 7th grade and it changed my life. As I have grown older I use my Braille education in so many areas of my life. I never realized how much I would lean on it as a blind father. I am grateful for my literacy. For learning. For education. For inclusive education. Don’t worry I even know blind people who have gone blind later in life and learned Braille and are very happy about it.
