The deal, reached after what union officials called “around the clock bargaining this week,” would cover the more than 40,000 UC patient care and service workers across the UC system that AFSCME represents. AFSCME 3299 members will vote on ratification May 19-21, and the contract would run through Nov. 30, 2029. Under the proposed contract’s terms, the UC system’s lowest paid workers would win their largest pay increase ever. Workers would receive a $1,500 signing bonus and a series of guaranteed raises: a 5% raise retroactively for 2025, then 6% in 2026, 5% in 2027 and 4% in each of the final two years of the contract. The agreement would also set new caps on how much AFSCME workers’ healthcare premiums can increase each year. “It means UC’s most vulnerable workers will no longer have to choose between paying for healthcare and paying for groceries,” said AFSCME 3299 president, Michael Avant, in a press release.
