There is so much that makes hockey a great sport. All of that was on display last night.
The addition of an open age competition to Monday night hockey has given a new outlet for so many hockey tragics. With busy lives so many just cannot make weekend sport, Monday night open hockey has given hockey back to those people.
Our Southern players have embraced this competition with now four teams in these competitions, two in A grade and two in B. With the Southern derbys on Monday night, the B white team - the youngsters took the points in a tight game over red. While in the A grade derby the Black team scored the one goal to take the points over silver.
When we look at these four Southern teams, many of the players are made up of family groups: 2 x Durrant, 2x Williams, 2x Boshoff, 3 x Eddington, 2 x Willcock, 2 x Lambert, 2 x Stimson,2 x Thomas the Overtons and Hayes, and of course father and son groups of Schmalenbach and Lewis, while we wont try and detangle the other relationsh...
