What started as a kiosk for doughnuts and Hawaiian coffee comes to an end when Mahalo's Coffee & Mini Donuts closes its West Des Moines storefront. Julie Nitchie and her business/life partner Troy Schall opened the kiosk at Jordan Creek Town Center in 2014 after a trip to Hawaii had them pondering how to continue the aloha spirit away from the beaches of Waikiki. They decided to sell mini doughnuts. The idea became so popular that they moved into a storefront in West Des Moines in 2016.
