One step closer to making history. Keisha Lance Bottoms officially won Georgia’s Democratic primary for governor, securing the party nomination ahead of November’s general election. If elected, Bottoms would become both Georgia’s first Black woman governor and the first Black woman governor in U.S. history. Throughout her campaign, Bottoms has positioned herself as “battle-tested,” highlighting her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, the George Floyd protest era, and her plans to address affordability, housing, healthcare, and economic opportunity across Georgia. Her primary victory also marks another historic milestone as she becomes only the second Black woman in U.S. history to secure a major-party nomination for governor.
