More than 80 years after high school, Ray Svejnoha, a World War II veteran, recently attended his first prom — at 100 years old. “I have had surprises before but nothing like this. These young people did it,” Svejnoha said. Students from the Tech Connect service club at Matea Valley High School in Aurora regularly visit Svejnoha at Independence Village in Naperville where he lives, and they formed a bond over recent months. When the students learned Svejnoha never attended prom because he deployed a few months ahead of graduation, they decided to make things right and invite him to their prom on May 8.
