Well, shit. Yesterday the Senate confirmed Steve Pearce to lead the Bureau of Land Management. This appointment puts "Sell-off Steve" in charge of more than 245 million acres of public lands across the United States. A former oilfield services executive and congressman from New Mexico, Pearce spent years in Congress attacking public lands across the country. He's long called for shrinking and selling off public lands to private and corporate interests. His appointment will no doubt be catastrophic for the agency, the communities it serves, and the landscapes it’s meant to manage and protect.
