How to Make Perfect Dheeli (Soft & Comforting) Khichdi in the Instant Pot
Khichdi is more than just a meal in an Indian home — it’s pure comfort. I grew up eating it, and now my son loves it just as much. I make khichdi at least once a week, especially on busy workdays. There’s nothing better than coming home to hot, soft khichdi ready on the delayed timer.

Even though it sounds simple, making soft, flowy (dheeli) khichdi in the Instant Pot can go wrong if the water ratio isn’t right. The key is getting that rice-to-dal-to-water ratio perfect.
I use Surti Kolam or Sona Masoori rice for the best texture.
✅ If Rice & Dal Are Soaked / Using Delayed Timer
Ratio: 1 : 3.5 (rice + dal mixture : water)
Example:
½ cup rice + ½ cup dal = 1 cup mixture
→ Add 3.5 cups water
Cook:
30 minutes on High Pressure
Let it natural release

Ratio: 1 : 5.5 (rice + dal mixture : water)
