I’m going to say something that’s going to make some of you uncomfortable, but after 20+ years as a Registered Dietitian, I’d be doing you a disservice if I didn’t.
I’m not anti-GLP-1. For women with legitimate metabolic disease, PCOS, or severe insulin resistance, they can be a useful clinical tool.
But here’s what nobody is telling you.
The research is now showing that roughly two-thirds of women regain most or all of the weight within a year of stopping the medication. And the weight that comes back isn’t the same weight that left. You lost fat AND muscle on the drug. You’re regaining fat. So you end up at the same number on the scale with less muscle, a slower metabolism, and a body composition that’s actually worse than where you started.
That’s not a transformation. That’s a really expensive detour.
Because here’s what the drug doesn’t do. It doesn’t teach you how to eat enough protein. It doesn’t build the muscle you need to keep your metabolism running into your 50s, 60s, ...
