The Miss America Pageant started out as a beauty contest in 1921 which featured local girls in swimsuits. However, after the Sam Haskell fiasco in 2017, Gretchen Carlson, Miss America 1989, was elected to be the new chairwoman of the board. Her first major decision was to remove the swimsuit competition from the pageant, following a unanimous vote from the board of directors. There are many strong, valid arguments from both sides. Watch American Royalty to find out who opposed and who accepted the change and then decide for yourself.
