The Miss America Organization was failing in 2005-06, even having faced the threat of bankruptcy in 2002. Subsequently, the pageant was moved from its home in Atlantic City to Las Vegas as well as to a cable network when ABC dropped the Miss America broadcast due to low ratings. However, in 2007, when Sam Haskell joined the organization as Chairman of the Board and eventually became CEO, things were turning around. By 2013, he was able to bring Miss America back to Atlantic City and back onto a broadcast network. "When he came along, I felt like there was a new energy. I felt like he brought a new enthusiasm.
