A legendary piece of Universal Studios Hollywood history. 🌊 From 1973 to 2017, Studio Tour guests experienced Parting the Red Sea, inspired by the epic scene from The Ten Commandments where Moses parts the waters. As the tram approached Park Lake, guests counted down before tens of thousands of gallons of water dramatically separated in front of them. The tram then descended below lake level as water cascaded alongside the vehicles creating one of the most memorable practical effects in tram tour history. Before the Red Sea effect arrived, Park Lake was used as a recreation of the Mississippi River featuring a working sternwheeler and wave machines capable of creating storm and hurricane conditions for filming. The lake also appeared in productions including Creature from the Black Lagoon, McHale’s Navy, Gilligan’s Island, Dawn of the Dead, and The Mississippi Gambler.
