Kenyan-Swedish startup Roam is on a mission to build sustainable transport across Africa. It started with a pilot project collab with uber to help the Silicon Valley giant scale its efforts on the continent. Then the company released Roam Air, an electric motorcycle designed specifically for the African use case based on years of R&D.

The potential is massive: Motorbikes are an integral part of daily life in Kenya—offering a cheap, fast, and accessible mobility option for millions. But historically, most of those produced in the country have been gas-powered, resulting in huge emission rates and high levels of noise pollution.

By focusing its project development on affordability, functional design, and performance, Roam is looking to transform two-wheeled transport in Kenya—and beyond. The company’s ultimate goal? “We’re looking to electrify Africa,” says Albin Wilson, chief strategy officer.
