China on Tuesday reiterated its opposition to “exclusive cliques” and bloc confrontation after foreign ministers from the Quad group met in India.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said cooperation between countries should support regional peace and stability and “should not target any third party.”
The comments came after diplomats from Australia, India, Japan and the United States — known as the Quad — agreed on joint projects including a port in Fiji and cooperation on critical minerals and energy security. Beijing has previously criticised the Quad as a Cold War-style grouping aimed at containing China.
