Across western and central Europe, temperature records have been smashed as the region grapples with an unprecedented late-May heatwave.
Brought on by a 'heat dome', where the lower atmosphere is essentially trapped and warmed up by a lid of high-pressure air above it, the UK is expected to reach 35℃ later today, while southern Spain could surpass 40℃.
This heat dome is exactly what India has been experiencing over the past few weeks, where temperatures climbed to almost 50℃, leading to the deaths of 37 people across the country.
Experts say these weather patterns are directly related to warming global temperatures caused by climate change.
