NATO Secretary general Mark Rutte said that “the US will stay involved in Europe” as the US prepares to withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany.
Speaking at a press conference in Brussels, Rutte emphasised that any reductions would take place in a "structured way". He also appeared to attempt to soften the blow of the withdrawal, saying "we know that adjustments will take place, the US has to pivot forward.”
The Trump administration’s decision earlier this month came following a public clash between the US president and German Chancellor Fredriech Merz over the Iran war.
