On Tuesday, the US Senate pushed forward a war powers resolution that would force President Donald Trump to withdraw military action from Iran, unless congressional authorisation is received.⁣ ⁣ The measure to advance the resolution was passed 50-47, with a small number of Republicans standing alongside their Democratic colleagues to see the vote through.⁣ ⁣ While the measure was only procedural, it is the eighth attempt by the Senate to pass the vote since the conflict began nearly three months ago.⁣ ⁣ For the measure to become law, a final vote is required to pass with a majority. As three Republican senators were absent in Tuesday’s vote, the success of the resolution remains uncertain: if these senators were to vote to support the war in Iran, the majority would be lost and the resolution would fail.⁣ ⁣ There is currently no set date for the second vote. ⁣ ⁣ #Iran #IranConflict #Senate #Trump #WarPowers
