This might bother some people but here’s a video of our toddler watching Trash Truck in the shade on an iPad for quiet time at the climbing crag. Yes, I hiked an iPad (well technically its cheaper tablet cousin, the Amazon Fire) out to the crag just for this reason. Listen, I get it. Screen time for littles is a sensitive topic. But I genuinely believe there is a time and a place and that it’s okay to use screen time as a tool. In this case, I want my kiddo to look at family climbing days as something fun, so we sprinkle in little rewards like screen time to keep the days light and fun. Here’s the thing: the kids played for HOURS among the rocks, climbing, playing doctor, building things with rocks and mini Magnetiles.
