Carved directly into solid bedrock, Temppeliaukion kirkko feels less like a building placed on nature, and more like architecture emerging from it. 🪨✨ The iconic copper dome hovers above rugged granite walls, while even the gutters and detailing carefully follow the natural contours of the bedrock itself, preserving the raw geometry of the site rather than fighting against it. Designed by the Suomalainen brothers and completed in 1969, the church is often called the “Rock Church,” a masterpiece of Finnish modernism where light, material, acoustics, and landscape become one continuous experience. Fun fact: the exposed stone walls create incredible natural acoustics, which is why the church is also used for concerts and performances.
