Sadly… you did read that right. 🥲
A new study found that, among the top U.K. box office films from the past three years, movies were more likely to feature a lead actor named Chris than a female lead over the age of 60.
It also found that films were four times more likely to have a talking animal as the lead character than a woman over 60. 😳
The report highlighted just five films released in the U.K. over the past five years that starred a female lead over 60, including Diane Keaton in ‘Book Club: The Next Chapter,’ Demi Moore in ‘The Substance,’ and Jamie Lee Curtis in ‘Freakier Friday.’
Dame Emma Thompson also weighed in on the findings, saying: “Women are half the population and we get older. So where are the stories about us? The older we get, the more interesting we are.”
