A “starry” galaxy far, far away   Peek behind the bright star at the center of this image and you’ll see what appears to be a swarm of faint stars. This is actually a dwarf irregular galaxy residing some 23 million light-years away in the constellation Canis Major. (“Dwarf irregular” means this galaxy has an unusual shape. It’s not a spiral, round, oval, or lenticular – kind of a cross between a spiral and oval.)   This image comes from a NASAHubble program that looked at the movement of galaxies and galaxy clusters through space. Matter in the universe is distributed unevenly, and the gravitational influence that matter has drives the movement of large-scale structures in the universe.   #NASA #Hubble #Space #Galaxy
