On May 20, 2026, I was officially hooded, a historic moment in my life. As a first-generation student and immigrant from Ghana, this achievement represents generations of sacrifice, faith, perseverance, and dreams far greater than my own. I came to this country at one year old, never fully understanding the sacrifices my parents made so I could have opportunities they never did. Today, I stand as a testimony to what can happen when courage, community, and prayer are passed from one generation to the next. I still vividly remember opening a large envelope in a grocery store in New Jersey and learning I had been selected as a Gates Millennium Scholar, receiving 10 years of educational funding.
