One of the biggest shifts I’ve seen, both in research and in the work itself, is this: When people understand why their body responds the way it does, they stop treating themselves like they’re broken. So many people walk around feeling frustrated with themselves. “Why can’t I relax?”
“Why do I always feel on edge?”
“Why do I shut down?”
“Why do I overthink everything?”
“Why am I so exhausted even when I rest?” While it feels like everything is falling apart, your body is actually trying to adapt.

If it’s constantly in survival mode, it becomes the norm. The nervous system is always paying attention to what it believes is safe and what it believes is threatening. And after enough stress, the body can start responding to everyday life as if it still has to stay guarded. It means your body learned how to protect you. And you begin understanding that, you can begin to soften.
