The Model Y is highly efficient and it's highly convenient for road trips, largely due to Tesla's software and expansive Supercharging network. With a peak charge rate of 225kW, we wanted to see how the RWD model’s charging curve holds up in the real world. Right out of the gate, the Model Y pulled incredibly hard, hitting an impressive 221kW peak. It stayed above 200 kW until the 14% mark before starting a steep taper. By the time the Model Y reached 47%, it was pulling just 100kW. The upper stretch slowed down significantly, eventually dropping to just 42 kW as it hit the 80% cutoff.
