The line is real. The ocean doesn't know it's there. Marine protected areas exist on maps, in databases, and in international agreements. What they don't do is stop what flows across them. Ocean currents don't consult boundary maps. Plastic navigates by current, not designation status. The most protected waters on earth receive the same debris as the least.
