Released on May 28, 1991, Niggaz4Life marked the second and final studio album from legendary hip-hop group #NWA. The project would ultimately become the group’s last release before officially disbanding later that same year. By the time the album dropped, both #IceCube and Arabian Prince had already exited the group, leaving only four members from the original lineup. Shortly after the album’s release, #DrDre and longtime collaborator The D.O.C. also departed to help launch Death Row Records. Despite the internal turmoil, Niggaz4Life made history. The album debuted at No. 2 before climbing to the top of the Billboard 200, reportedly selling nearly 954,000 copies in its first week. The project became the first gangsta rap album ever to reach No. 1 on the chart, as well as the first independently distributed album to achieve the feat.
