Chandler is delaying a major decision on its controversial Flock license plate reader cameras until July after public concerns over privacy, data access, and how the system is being used. The city was expected to vote on whether to extend its contract with Flock Safety, but after lengthy public comment during Thursday’s meeting, the decision was pushed back to July 16. Chandler police first installed 14 Flock cameras in March 2024 as part of a pilot program. In May 2025, the city council approved buying 26 more. The cameras photograph license plates and send alerts to law enforcement when a plate is tied to things like stolen vehicles, missing people, or active warrants.
