💙🎪 Meet Layla Rhone.
To her family, she's a princess. A superstar. The light of the room.
But several years ago, after a visit to
@childrensmercy, Layla's family received the kind of news no parent is ever prepared to hear: Layla had Stage 3 Wilms tumor, a form of kidney cancer.
As her family struggled to process the diagnosis, Layla began treatment under the expert care of the doctors, nurses, researchers, and staff at Children's Mercy. More than 25 rounds of chemotherapy and radiation followed. Long days. Difficult treatments. Time away from her siblings. The kinds of challenges no child should ever have to face.
Through it all, one thing helped make the hard days a little brighter: her dad's music.
JahVelle would bring his saxophone to the hospital and play for Layla and other children receiving treatment, creating moments of joy, comfort, and normalcy in the midst of the unimaginable.
Today, five years later, Layla is cancer-free.
She's back to being the superstar princess...
