Today, we’re excited to share our conversation with director Jafar Panahi (IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT, NO BEARS, THE WHITE BALLOON) in the latest episode of the Team Deakins Podcast. Italian neorealism and BICYCLES THIEVES left a lasting impression on a young Jafar, and he shares his views on what he calls socially-engaged cinema and the nature of his own work. We also discuss IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT, which features a return to a more traditional form of storytelling compared with Jafar’s preceding films, and he reflects on the aspects of Iranian society featured in the film. Translation conducted by Sheida Dayani. This conversation was recorded on February 12, 2026. Check out the link in our bio to listen to the full episode! - Recommended Viewing: THE WHITE BALLOON, THIS IS NOT A FILM, THE CIRCLE - This episode is sponsored by Aputure Instagram: aputure.lighting - #teamdeakins #rogerdeakins #rogeradeakins #sirRoger #bywaysBook #reflectionsBook #reflections #jamesellisd...
