Israel’s military is under pressure to combat the growing threat of fibre-optic drones from Hezbollah. The small, explosive drones have become the main weapon used by the Iran-backed group against Israeli soldiers inside southern Lebanon - similar to ones being used in the Ukraine war. But, Hezbollah is also increasingly firing them at Israeli communities across the border – including the Israeli border town of Shomera, where drone alerts and attacks have become routine. Of the 11 Israeli soldiers and one civilian defence contractor killed since the ceasefire came into force six weeks ago, eight have been killed by fibre-optic drones.
