In a few hours, I’ll light the candles. And just like that, the week will be over. Not because everything got done. Not because the to-do list is finished or the laundry is folded or the emails are answered. But because two flames draw a line in the sand between the ordinary and the sacred. And we choose the sacred. We’ll sit down and we’ll go around the table. Share what we’re grateful for. Not necessarily from this week. Just whatever is true. Whatever is sitting in your chest. I learned this practice as a little girl at my parents’ table. And now my kids are learning it at mine. I don’t think you have to call it Shabbat to understand what this feels like. I think most people have a version of this — or are quietly wishing they did. Whatever you call your Friday night, I hope you find your line in the sand. I hope you have a table to come back to.
