6 years ago today I did something that terrified me.
I sat down in front of a camera with no script, no network, no guarantee that anyone would watch, and I started a conversation that I felt in my heart needed to happen. I didn’t know if the world was ready. Honestly I didn’t know if I was ready.
Uncomfortable Conversations with A Black Man was born out of a moment in American History where I felt called to do something. Not qualified. Not prepared. Just called. Or as Oprah would put it, “The man met the moment.”
Six years later those conversations have reached over a hundred million people, landed on the New York Times bestseller list, won an Emmy and introduced me to humans across every background imaginable who just wanted to understand and be understood.
