This Sunday (May 31) a rare Blue Moon could be seen from around the world.
Unlike what you may expect, a Blue Moon doesn’t have to be blue at all. Instead, it is defined as the second full moon of a month or the extra full moon in a season (which typically have four full moons).
This typically occurs only once every two or three years.
These pictures from around the world include a photo of the Blue Moon complimenting the Long March 12B Y1 carrier rocket, awaiting launch in Inner Mongolia, and rising behind the spiral minaret of the Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Center in Doha.
