Defenseman Dylan McIlrath was selected 10th overall by the New York Rangers in 2010 and the pick was a surprise to many due to the fact that McIlrath was not seen as a top 10 pick by most scouts and analysts; but also because Cam Fowler, who was predicted to be selected before 10th overall, was still available. McIlrath was not selected for his offensive or skating abilities, registering only 74 points in 232 games for the Moose Jaw Warriors. That said, the Rangers picked him due to his physicality and toughness. McIlrath had 551 penalty minutes during his time in the WHL and had the most fights of any projected first round pick going into the draft with 19, while the runner up only had 6. Ultimately, he would spend most of his time in the Rangers organization with the Connecticut Whale/Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL and only played 38 NHL games for the Rangers.
