At 5th overall in the 2014 draft, the New York Islanders selected winger Michael Dal Colle after putting up 95 points in 67 OHL games with the Oshawa Generals in his draft year. His selection didn’t come as a surprise, given that he was ranked 5th in North American skaters by the NHL Central Scouting Bureau. In 246 OHL games, Dal Colle put up 316 points and played well during his first professional season after finishing his junior career in 2016. As a rookie with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for the 2016-17 season, the AHL affiliate for the Islanders, he had 41 points in 75 games. Despite decent rookie numbers, Dal Colle was cut from the Islanders training camp the following season but would be called up later that same season and made his NHL debut in 2018. His time in the NHL didn’t last long that season though, only playing 4 games with 0 points and went on to get only 24 points in 60 games for the Sound Tigers.
