With the 12th overall pick in the 2012 draft, the Buffalo Sabres selected forward Mikhail Grigorenko out of the QMJHL. Grigorenko had 85 points in 58 games in his first junior season with the Quebec Remparts, which was very impressive especially considering it was his first competitive season in North America. Such a great season landed him at #3 on the NHL Central Scouting Bureau top 10 North American skaters list, one above the second highest ranked center, Alex Galchenyuk (3rd overall, Montreal Canadiens). Shortly after the draft, he signed his entry-level contract with the Sabres but the lockout delayed the beginning of the 2012-13 season so he began the year in juniors.
