In Lake Placid, in front of 35,622 fans, jessiediggins skied the final race of her career at the first Cross-Country Skiing World Cup Finals ever staged on American snow.
Photographer dominiquepowers grew up inside New England ski culture, where cross-country skiing sits at the centre of everyday life. In March, she headed to Lake Placid to document one of the biggest weekends in the sport’s calendar.

The result is a story about terrifying endurance levels, lifelong ski families, Olympic superstars and one of the most physically brutal sports on earth experienced up close.
