The flats are coming down! Yup the Flats! is the title of a research project by Trinity sociology researcher Joe Whelan, who has used art-based creative methods to record life under the shadow of regeneration at Dolphin House flats in Dublin.
In collaboration with residents and the Dolphin House Community Development Association, they have now published a short film, a website and a permanent community artefact which capture the spoken interviews, photography, art and creative writing produced as part of the project. These pieces of art illustrate experiences of life in Dolphin House over the years, and particularly during this period of profound change. Creative approaches have allowed people to get involved in the research in a way that traditional methods don’t, while also making the outputs themselves accessible and enjoyable for a wider audience.
