Taxes are not the problem. Unfair tax breaks for the wealthiest few while working families lose services is the problem. The current leadership passed tax cuts that gave the biggest benefit to the wealthiest few. Idahoans in the top 1%, earning about $738,300 and above, saw an average tax cut of around $20,407 from recent income tax cuts. Families around Idaho’s median household income saw about $453. At the same time, these tax cuts reduced state revenue, and now Idaho keeps cutting or straining the services families rely on: rural health care, public education, Meals on Wheels, infrastructure, and basic support for local communities. That is giving the biggest breaks to the people who need them least, then asking working Idahoans to “endure” and live with fewer services.
