A study published in Sleep Health analyzed data from nearly 379,000 participants and found that people genetically predisposed to nap regularly had larger total brain volumes on average, equivalent to a brain up to 6.5 years younger. Researchers used a genetic method called Mendelian randomization to isolate the effect of napping itself.
The study’s lead author cautioned the findings need to be replicated before firm conclusions are drawn, and some scientists have noted limitations in how napping habits were measured.
