A Love Letter to Running on

10 years ago, I started running marathons. I loved how running made me feel. When I got my
#synovialsarcoma diagnosis in 2017, I had just learned I’d be running the chimarathon and nycmarathon that fall. My first question to my oncologist wasn’t “what does this mean?”, it was “can I still run my marathons?”
I did run those races, but I didn’t realize at the time that while I physically recovered from my cancer, I never mentally did, and life kept piling on. For nearly 8 years, fitness and running was on the back burner. Finding myself, figuring out my mental health, and focusing on my career was all that mattered.
With an incredible support system behind me, when I got in to the tokyomarathonfoundation, it was the start of a new journey with running.
