The clearest sign that someone doesn't like who they are is that they have to pretend to be someone they're not.
When you're comfortable with yourself, authenticity isn't something you have to perform. You don't need a mask, a character, or a carefully constructed image to convince people of your worth.
But when someone is running from themselves, they often become addicted to appearances. They create a persona and spend so much energy maintaining it that they lose touch with who they really are.
The problem is that no matter how convincing the performance becomes, the soul always knows the truth.
You can silence that inner voice with distractions, validation, status, attention, and approval, but you can never completely turn it off.
