I am taking Executive Action to create the Competency Task Force, which will improve public safety and improve Colorado’s competency system by analyzing challenges and opportunities to improve services for lower-level non-violent offenders and ensure those with mental health disorders are provided proper care and treatment.
I was also proud to sign SB26-149 last week - Pathways for Individuals with Mental Health Disorder, which updates our competency laws to ensure that those who pose a serious risk to themselves or others are provided support, not released into the community. The new Task Force will determine how we can improve access to care for low-level non-violent offenders. Streamlining this system will improve public safety.
